Dr Owen McKay

Dr Owen McKay is a specialist gastroenterologist and hepatologist with advanced training in interventional endoscopy, combining clinical excellence with a compassionate, patient-centred approach. He completed his medical degree at the University of Newcastle and his foundational physician training at Royal North Shore Hospital. He then undertook advanced gastroenterology training at major tertiary centres, including Canberra Hospital and Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital.

To further his expertise in complex pancreaticobiliary and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, he completed two dedicated interventional endoscopy fellowships at leading Australian centres: Westmead Hospital (2020) alongside Professor Michael Bourke, and Monash Health (2021).

Working as a fractional specialist across clinical service and translational research, Owen is deeply committed to advancing medical science and is currently completing his PhD in personalised therapy for pancreatic cancer and cholangiocarcinoma. He is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical trainees. Highly valuing collaborative care, Owen prioritises clear communication with referring doctors, welcoming phone calls to discuss complex cases. He ensures his patients feel fully informed throughout their treatment and is always willing to accommodate urgent referrals and direct-access endoscopy.
